Storytelling in Greek Education

SICLE SEMINAR

Our School was recently invited by the Sydney Institute for Community Languages Education (SICLE) to plan and present a seminar on storytelling and storytelling apps for fellow educators working in Greek education. Many educators connected from Greek schools and colleges in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Canberra, Dubai, while there were also a lot of colleagues from the US and even Mexico and Argentina.

This seminar was a great opportunity to present to other educators some incredible apps that we use in our online classes. These apps are based on the method of narration/ storytelling in language learning. Part of the discussion focuses on the importance of storytelling in language learning, since people have the ability to retain information a lot more easily through stories that relate to their knowledge and experience.

Of course in our case, teaching Greek as a foreign or second language, stories, narration, storytelling allows us to familiarize the student with the production or written and oral language a lot more quickly and effectively. Let’s not also forget, another great benefit of storytelling; it is actually quite fun and students learn best when they are having fun.

We would like to thank the Sydney Institute for Community Languages Education for trusting us with the presentation of this seminar. It was truly a constructive and interesting morning and an absolute honor to connect with this many Greek educators from around the world. Until the next one!
