The last couple of months we have witnessed many people and institutions around the world having to make difficult decisions that would never even cross our minds a few months ago. We recently shared one that we have had to make and that was exceptionally difficult for us to come to and announce. After weeks of carefully following and evaluating the recent developments on the Covid-19 frontier, we have had to cancel the Greek LOL Summer Camp for 2020.
The Greek LOL Summer Camp holds a special place in our hearts
We did not make this decision lightly. It is the result of many ongoing conversations, discussions and consultations with local, regional and medical authorities as well as experts both in Greece and abroad. Most of the work we do at Greek LOL is online and we sincerely love every aspect of it. Our Greek Summer Camp holiday, however, holds a very special place in our hearts because it gives us the chance to meet our young students in person, practise Greek while having fun, show these little Greeks around the Greek paradise and bring them closer to other Greeks and the Greek lifestyle. For all these reasons, we were truly looking forward to this year’s Summer Camp that was going to be bigger and better. This is why, having to make this decision was devastating to us.
Coming to this difficult decision
The way the Covid-19 crisis was handled in Greece was a surprising success. Nevertheless, after consulting with many experts we have decided that there are just too many risks both known and unknown to us that render it impossible for us to hold our Summer Camp program as usual. Despite that, if we were to hold the 2020 Summer Camp we would have to comply with certain restrictions and measures that we believe would compromise the Greek summer experience that we promise. As a result, we decided to ask you for a raincheck for next year, instead of having to conduct a program that would weaken the Greek LOL Summer Camp experience and the linguistic and social benefits that it offers to students from all over the world.
Working towards a magical 2021 summer experience
Since we always like to see the glass as half full, we would like to view this undeniable setback as our chance to work even harder and make sure the Greek LOL Summer Camp 2021 is the best it can be. So, let’s keep the Camp spirit alive! Let’s keep safe so that we make sure we will all meet next year in Greece at the Greek LOL Summer Camp 2021. And when we do, rest assured that it will be a magical experience we will all remember for a very long time. In the meantime, Greek LOL remains open all year round for all of you.
