The Blended Learning Approach in Greek Language Education
Since its beginning in 2012, The Greek Online School has been offering a unique blend of online and in-person learning. Blended learning merges convenience in virtual lessons with immersive experiences spent in Greece, enabling students to build language skills during the year and then deepen their understanding in a real, Greek-speaking environment.
On the one hand students study Greek online on our interactive platform designated for dynamic learning. Each one of our lessons has been created in order to go beyond the basics, integrating multimedia resources, gamification, and engaging tools that make Greek come alive for every student. And because all our educators are experienced philologists based in Greece, students receive expertise and authenticity at the same time.
Beyond the Screen: Greek in Greece
Web-based courses have undoubtedly played an invaluable role in modern Greek language learning, but it can never be truly effective without real-life cultural experiences.
Learning Greek for many Greek diaspora families is just as much about preserving cultural heritage as it is about mastering the language. In this respect, we offer students opportunities to participate in immersive summer programs in Greece to put their learning into practice within a Greek-speaking community.
Our Greek Language Summer Camp for kids, is located near Corinth and is sure to give young learners an unforgettable experience in Greece. In ten days, the children attend intensive lessons of Greek, have the chance for a field trip to the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus, and take part in various cultural and sports activities in Greece. Our campers make friends with kids from both Greece and the Greek diaspora, greatly improving their spoken Greek. They go back home, reconnecting in many instances with camp friends in our online classes, so as to keep the journey of learning alive in a supportive community.
A Unique Greek Immersion for Adult Learners
Adult learners will also find immersive learning in Spetses, a vibrant cosmopolitan island, home to our Greek Immersion Course for adults. For nine days, adult students get together to be immersed into Greek language learning. Every day consists of language classes combined with beach outings and cultural activities: Greek dancing, cooking, tastings, and even museum tours or cruises. This experience helps the adults to better connect with Greek culture and form an authentic understanding of the language in its natural environment.
Since 2022, both our youth and adult programs have been proudly supported by the Ministry of Tourism and the Greek National Tourism Organization.
