November 17th

On the 17th of November our mind and heart is at the University of Athens and the heroic uprising of the Greek youth at the “Polytexneio” against tyranny, dictatorship and the general persecution of every form of freedom. The 17th of November remains to this day one of the most important dates in the history of the Greek nation. It was the day when many students died when they refused to stop fighting for democracy and hence the day that the democratic political system, which we Greeks take such pride in having invented, was restored for good.

On November 17th 1973 the students of Athens didn’t stop using their loud voices to ask for “Ψωμί, Παιδεία, Ελευθερία.” The right to food, education and freedom still is more relevant than ever. The 17th of November is a day to commemorate those who died while defending their democratic beliefs and aspirations for what was best for their country. It is also a day to celebrate the empowered Greek youth that never fails to stand on the right side of history. Greek Lessons Online will take this opportunity this year just like every year to help our young Greeks learn or remember the important events of 1973. With class discussions and videos we aim to make them aware of this part of Greek history and why not to inspire them to never stop fighting for what they believe in.mber
